The story
The Heart of the Tree at the Centre of the Table
An end-grain round is a cut straight across the trunk: every growth ring of the tree at once. At the center of such a table lies the pith, the point from which the tree began to grow.
This piece became the prototype for the "daisy" table: a similar concept, but from a more massive round.
