The story
A Map Drawn by Wood
A burl never repeats a single line: its fibers twist, part and come together again. I didn't hide the voids inside this burl. I filled them with turquoise resin, and they became lakes on the map.
The slender hairpin legs were chosen on purpose: they all but disappear, and the tabletop seems to float.

About the species
Burl a growth on a trunk or root
A burl is a growth on a tree's trunk or root in which the fibers twist in every direction. It gives the most complex figure wood can have, and it cannot be grown on purpose: every burl is an accident decades in the making.
